Catholic School Basketball Association Championship Game Report |
On Saturday, March 3rd, the JV Lions took on a taller Villa Maria team at St. Clare's Gym, hoping for a win to avenge their Lion's Classic loss, and the chance to face the St. Dominic/St. Clare survivor for the Catholic School Basketball Association 2007 Title. Displaying a patient offense that sprinted into fast breaks when the opportunities arose, and sporting perhaps their best defensive game of the year to date, the Lions blew the game open in the 2nd half and advanced to Sunday's Championship game held at Villa Maria. |
In the CSBA
Championship game on Sunday, March 4th versus Morris Park
Archrival St. Clare's, the Lions came well prepared for the
season's final showdown. In the first quarter the Lions' defense
took the St. Clare offense out of their game and jumped to an
early lead. Determined to make a game of it, St. Clare's chipped away at
the Lions' lead, and by halftime narrowed the margin to just 2
points. The 3rd period was all Lions as they dished and swished their way to a 12 point lead. The 4th quarter was no better for St. Clare's as the Lions played ball control, forcing St. Clare's to prolong the game by fouling. That only works when foul shots are missed, but the Lions stayed focused and their sharp-shooting from the free-throw line preserved the well earned win. The victory made the SFX JV the CSBA 2007 Champions, a title that was both well earned and deserved. |
