The SFX Debs took on a powerful Sacred Heart (SI) team in the opening round of the CYO State Tournament in Staten Island this Saturday. The WildCats gave it their best, but the ball just did not bounce their way all afternoon. Their shots didn't drop, and loose balls slipped away as Sacred Heart ran their way into the 2nd round of the CYO State playoffs. The Bronx Champion Debs had a spectacular season. We congratulate the Coaches, Players, and their fans for their outstanding effort & a job well done. |
The SFX PeeWees
also traveled to Staten Island to square off against a stacked Holy
Child (SI) squad. As they had in their 3 prior playoff games, the
Lions trailed big entering the 4th period. However, unlike their
other contests, the magic wasn't there as Holy Child's defense kept
the Lions' offense at bay throughout. We wish Holy Child good luck
in their next round game. Congratulations are due to the PeeWees for an unbelievable season. After loosing last year's entire starting 5 to promotion, the PeeWees hoped for a 500 season. Nobody expected this inexperienced team to come together so quickly. They finished the regular season with 18 wins and 0 losses. They then completed 3 consecutive come from behind, last second playoff victories, including a shocking 1 point upset of St. Brendan's to capture the CYO Bronx Championship. We thank coaches Anthony and Steve for their outstanding effort. We thank the PeeWee families and friends for their unwavering support, and we especially thank the PeeWee players for giving a 110% effort at every practice and game. The St. Francis Xavier School and Community can be very proud of the manner in which these, and all the SFX basketball teams represented them this 2006-2007 season. |
