Saturday, October 25, at Wright Tech (7:30 P.M.)

With only two games remaining the Hornets were desperate to get into the win column for the first time this season. To do so they would have to get things turned around against Wright Tech of Stamford, Ct. There was great uncertainty in the air, because the Hornets would have to overcome several obstacles to accomplish their mission. They would have to travel out of state and play a night game on an Astroturf field against a team they had never seen before, and do all this while competing for fan attention with the New York Yankees in World Series Game Six being played at the Stadium in the Bronx. It would be a challenge for the coaching staff to have the young Hornets prepared to overcome all these impediments, and enter the contest focused on its game plan.

The coaching staff was apparently up to the challenge, and so were the Hornets. As if having been locked in a pressure cooker for most of the season, and each of the previous games serving to turn the flame up a little higher, the lid was finally blown off the Hackley offense. The Hornets dominated on defense, as the offense erupted for three first half touchdowns to enter the intermission leading 21-0. Still, with the way things had gone so far this season, non of the Hornet's faithful followers were certain of the outcome by half-time.

However, all doubt quickly vanished in the third period, as the Hornets exploded for two more TD's to put the game out of reach. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets put the icing on the cake, as the defense preserved its first shutout of the season by recovering a Black Night fumble on the Hackley one yard line. The offense scored one more touchdown, and finished things off by making the two point conversion on a sweep right into the end-zone by freshman running back Jason Karpf. Senior half-back Jesse Teitel scored three touchdowns, Alex Scaros notched two, and John Perez also crossed the goal line for the Hornets. Final Score: Hackley Hornets 41, Wright Tech 0.

Let's give the team our full support in their final game of the season next Sunday, as they try to close the season on an up note by winning two in a row. The Hornets host a polished St. John the Baptist squad (6-1 CHSFL) at Hilltop field.

Good Luck to the Wright Tech Black Knights!
